Remember how we talked about presentation and performance on our web design services page? It is time to revisit that conversation.

A smart and striking looking website, is your presentation. That website being ‘seen’ on search engines, is your performance (or SEO).

At Untwisted Media, we are blessed with talent in both the presentation and performance areas, with a skilled team of both web designers and web developers to make sure that both parts of your very important web project are working optimally.

Search Engine Optimisation or SEO as it is more commonly termed, is extremely confusing to understand. It is not something you can touch or feel and it is often a very misunderstood area of digital marketing. In order to understand SEO, we must first understand how search works.

A search engine is a website you visit, to type in a question, or a series of questions. That search engine, (e.g Google) then replies with a long list of links to webpages that could potentially answer your question within about half a second of you typing in your query.

This is the seamless and very quick end result, however, there is a lot that goes into the process before those results are delivered to you on screen. Behind the scenes, Google, or the particular search engine you’re using, has web crawlers that go out the moment you type in your query and they gather information from all the content that they are able to find on the Internet. The web crawlers bring all of this content back to the search engine to build what it calls an index. That index is then fed through an algorithm that tries to match all the data and information gathered, with your original search query.

But how can Google possibly display all results on page one from every single business that is in the same niche as yours on page one? The simple answer is, it can’t.

Google will take into account multiple factors to decide which websites are displayed in the order it displays them.

There are numerous factors that go into a search engine’s algorithm and therefore many different components and techniques that go into an effective SEO campaign. Domain relevance, keywords, correctly formatted meta data, quality of content, correct image tags, back links, are just a few of them. The list is very extensive.

SEO is a skilled and complex process and when done correctly, it has the potential to exponentially influence your website ranking.

The SEO process is fluid and continuous. Every single SEO case is different and the elements required to make one website perform will be different to another.

At Untwisted Media, we hold a consultation with you to understand your business, to assess your current SEO status and to understand and establish your business goals and desired outcomes. We then carry out research and establish the best and most effective methods for an SEO program for your business, taking into account competitor and keyword analysis, geographical searches, search traffic around your business niche, amongst many other areas. We will then present and discuss with you a solution that is an ongoing monthly program for your business requirement.
